Arizona is lucky enough to have two spectacular & scenic railroads running all year round. The Grand Canyon Railway and the Verde Canyon Railroad.
The Grand Canyon Railway came into being long before any of the savvier helicopter tours, jeep tours or white water rafting tours came into existence. These were the first tours to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Even today, the railway runs on the same tracks as it did years ago. The carriages have been restored and now provide five classes of service to tourists, and gives them an opportunity to travel the same path as their ancestors.
The nostalgic Grand Canyon Railway tours are sure to take you back in time!
Unique in their experience, and flavor, tourists cherish the memory of these tours as each one is a special and unique journey. These tours are designed to take you back in time with the re-modeled carriages and services provided. The journey, which takes a couple of hours is sure to give you many unique memories to cherish for a lifetime.
One to the most popular tours on the Grand Canyon Railway is the “Polar Express” Every winter, children are delighted to take the trip to the North Pole, to meet Santa Clause, aboard this train, which is converted to the famous ‘Polar Express’.
The enchanting journey on the ‘nature show’ on wheels, the Verde Canyon Railroad.
Popularly known as Arizona’s best nature show on wheels, the Verde Canyon Railroad is considered by many to be the finest train ride in the state. The tracks for this railway were laid way back in the year 1911 with a hefty investment of 1.3 Million dollars. The Verde Canyon is located below Jerome, and west of Sedona. Its remote wilderness is renowned for its towering red colored rock and clear green waters. The train runs through a man-made tunnel which is around 680 feet in length. You also get to take in the beauty of the unique vegetation in the region. No wonder it is termed as the longest nature show on wheels.
Verde Canyon Railroad also has unique tours like the wine tasting tour called the “Grape Escape”, a valentine weekend special tour for chocoholics, the Oktoberfest tour for beer lovers, the winter Eagle Watch, Fall Colors and the Santa Claus Express running in December.
