The Annual FBR Open 2008
The FBR Open is an annual golf tournament that used to go by the name Phoenix Open. It was introduced in 1932 but only went on for three years before it started again in 1939, led by golfer Bob Goldwater. Needless to say, the tournament is rather famous, with old-time guests ranging from Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. The tournament has also been won by several golf hall of famers such as Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, Gene Littler, Jack Nicklause, Johnny Miller, and more. If you are a golf fan, this is more than just a tournament. It’s also a top Arizona Tourist Attraction.
Getting to the TPC Scottsdale:
The FBR Open is held at the TPC (Tournament Players Club) in Scottsdale. To get there from the west, take Loop 101 and exit to Hayden Road before driving south, which will take you straight to the parking lot. If you will be traveling from the east, take Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd. and go north to Bell Road, Make a right to 94th Street. Go south to reach the parking lot. Once you get there, parking is free and you can get around via free shuttle service, which operates seven days a week.
Events, Family and the World Famous Birds Nest!
The FBR Open Tournament is from January 27 to February 3. For each day of the tournament, various events will be happening around the course. However, January 28 is a good day to bring the family because there will be a R.S. Hoyt Jr. Family Foundation Dream Day featuring activities such as Junior Golf Clinic at the TPC Practice Range. On January 29, there will be a dedication of the Bob Goldwater Bridge at the TPC Stadium Course. Starting January 30, there will be a Coors Light Bird’s Nest entertainment night featuring various artists such as Duck Soup, KC and the Sunshine Band, Tainted Love, and a tribute to Neil Diamond, the Super Diamond. You can also watch the Best Damn Sports Show Period at the Birds Nest at 4PM. The first round of the FBR Open will be held on January 31, the second on February 1, and the third on February 2. The fourth and last round will be held on February 3, the last day, plus a Buick Hole-in-One contest wherein the winner will win a brand new Buick.
