Grand Canyon Caverns

Brave the Underground Caves of the Grand Canyon Caverns:

The Grand Canyon Caverns are world-renowned for being the largest of the few and rare dry caverns in the world. With beautiful limestone bedrock and amazing rock formations, the Grand Canyon Caverns is a wonderful place visit any time of the year.

How to Get to the Caverns:

The famous Grand Canyon Caverns is located along Arizona’s Historic Route 66. To reach this popular tourist attraction, you can drive there from Kingman, which takes about 90 minutes.

Things To Do:

There is plenty to do at the Grand Canyon Caverns, but the highlight of your trip will definitely be the guided tours. However, aside from that, you can still enjoy other activities such as hiking, swimming, horseback riding, river rafting, take a helicopter tour or even go shopping. If you are planning to go hiking, I think the best time to visit is November when the weather is cooler and there are less people. February and March are also good times visit. If you are taking the entire family on vacation, Summer is a great time to visit, although it can be busy at this time of year. During the month of August, you may be lucky enough to experience the natural fireworks show created by an Arizona Monsoon Storm. However, for special treat visit during January, when it’s pretty cold, not only will the crowds be small, if there is snow, it brings out the unique beauty of the area.

During your visit, you can stay at the motel or campgrounds. Doing so will give you the opportunity to witness and marvel the beauty of the universe when it is fresh and unhindered, the way it always is from the Sky Observation Deck. For the kids, they have plenty to enjoy as well. They can have fun at the play grounds and the Indian village.

Guided Grand Canyon Cavern Tours:

The guided tour offered by the caverns will be the most memorable part of your trip, and is the most loved attraction at the place. The tour includes an elevator ride down 21 stories to reach the underground trails around 210 feet below. Here you will explore the subterranean caverns, full of formerly underwater fossils, that date back to several million years ago. This regular tour takes around 45 minutes underground. They also have a Short Tour, which takes only 25 minutes. This is ideal for those who are unable to participate in strenuous walking tours for some reason. The tour can be accessed by wheelchair, and participants will also learn a lot about the history of the caverns and a lot of information about limestone and crystals. But for the more adventurous ones, they also have the Explorers Tour, which takes participants to areas of the caverns that are not normally accessible to other tours.
