Heard Museum of Native American Art and History

The Heard Museum should be on your list if you are vacationing in Arizona or live here. It is an enriching learning environment that will open your eyes to native traditions that will stand out in the midst of our modern world. Bursting with cultural gems, there is no doubt that the Heard Museum belongs to the list of must-see tourist attractions in North America. The museum also has three locations, the Downtown museum, the North museum, and the West museum. All in all, the three locations offer amazing art displays. A visit to the museum will help you appreciate cultural traditions and art. And if you are already an art and culture aficionado, the museum always has something new to offer, so you will find new things to admire every time.

Getting There

Heard Museum Downtown is located at Central Avenue in Phoenix, and it can be accessed through 3rd Street and Monte Vista Road. The North location is at The Summit at N. Scottsdale Road. Lastly, the West location is located east of the Surprise Stadium. You can reach it by taking Bullard and going south to Paradise Lane. Once there, go left to reach the museum.

Things To Do at the Heard Museum

The number one thing to do at the Heard Museum is to enjoy the various exhibits. There are endless numbers of exhibits, and the exhibits are constantly changing. If you come by Arizona regularly, you will find something new at the museum with every visit. They also have the excellent Berlin Gallery, which features contemporary art displays. At the Museum, you will get a taste of art in all shapes and sizes, be it contemporary and traditional. You can also shop at the Museum Shop. Antique and art lovers will find their haven there, as the shop features authentic potteries, baskets, textiles, and the likes. Other than that, if you plan ahead, you can catch their seasonal artist demonstrations. You can check the schedules for the upcoming events at the museum’s website.

Guided Tours

Guided tours are also offered at all three locations of the museum. At Downtown, there are three free tours everyday (12NN, 1:30PM, and 3PM). At the North, guided tours are only available on weekends at 1:00PM and for a fee. At the West location, schedules vary so you will need to call ahead for confirmed dates. The museum also offers tours for school trips and other groups. These are available on a by-appointment basis.

Opening hours: Downtown - Daily 9:30AM-5:00PM; North – Monday to Saturday 10:00AM-5:00PM, Sunday 12:00NN-5:00PM; West – Tuesday to Sunday 9:30AM-5:00PM. Closed on special holidays.

Entrance fees: Downtown - $10 adults/$5 students/$3 children ages 6-12; North - $5 adults/$2 students; West - $5 adults/$2 students. Children under 6 are free in all three locations.

Reservations: Reservations are not required for the occasional visit. However, if you are planning on bringing a large group to the Heard Museum, call in advance for an appointment.
